Speaking of bird baths and Hermit Thrushes, I was pleasantly thrilled to
realize the "Song Sparrow" bathing in my Arlington suburban back yard was a
Hermit
Thrush. It bathed lustily for about two minutes around 2 PM today, then
perched for a preening session. Bathing behavior reminded me of our Robins.
Second, I am probably nuts, but I am determined I am still hearing a Great
Crested Flycatcher calling from way up in a tree just south of our house. I
have
heard that distinctive call at the occasional interval for some weeks now and
as recently as around 3 PM today. Is that plausible, or am I perhaps being
fooled by someone's mimic call? It would have to be a Blue Jay? or some other
trickster as I would know if it were interspersed in a Mocker's song. Any
thoughts? Cheers,
