About the hawk training:
In 1998 I spent a LOT of time on Stony Man Mountain at Shenendaoh watching
the three young peregrines that were hatched and fledged there that year. I
watched first as the adults coaxed the young off the eyrie with food in the
air and then, over a week or so, watched as the young falcons practiced
"touch and goes" on local tree tops. By the end of the second week they
were snatching birds from the same trees. What a treat to watch all that
evolve.
