Kim Peacock, and Joseph and Gwen Gantt birded Metz Wetlands for the Ft.
Belvoir CBC yesterday and we saw what we are sure are 2 different
Harris's sparrows.  One was sitting the the bush to the left of the
blind at about 8am.  The other, which has a more extensive black area on
the chest, was feeding in the path to the right of the monument (coming
from the wide trail that parallels the road) at 10am and again at around
5pm.  Great looks for all sightings.  Other highlights for our day were
2 screech and 2 barred owls, a displaying woodcock, 15 tree sparrows,
and 11 laughing gulls on Neabsco Creek.  For some reason the gulls never
congregated on Neabsco at low tide, so we missed lesser black-backed
(which we always get).  We were also hoping to get the California gull,
which was seen on Neabsco on Jan. 2. No luck there.   Also, the
clay-colored sparrow never made an appearance for us.
