Visitors:
Several observers, including Pat Alther, Rose Thomas, William and Therese
Leigh, Dean Lashbrook, Vic Laubach, and Allen Bryan from Richmond.
Weather:
A chilly day, with steady S to SE winds throughout most of the day,
dimishing to 5-11km/h out of the west by late afternoon.
Although no haze, heavily overcast throughout the morning hours with low
ground fog over Shenandoah Valley to the west and brief period of light
rain, Clearing from the E to SE giving way to bright blue skies and white
cirrus and puffy clouds.
Temp: 12c increasing to 19.5; humidity: 61% dropping to 54%;
Bar.Pressure: holding steady 1016 throughout most of the day, dropping to
1014 by 2 pm.
Raptor Observations:
A relatively slow but steady day, with low birds pretty much throughout the
day.
Peregrine Falcon continue to move through for an all time season record.
Highlight was an adult Bald Eagle at 2:35pm during visit of Dan Johnson
and his young son, Kileigh. Dan has made several recent visits with high
hopes to see his first BAEA flying free and wild.
Non-raptor Observations:
Tree Swallow moving throughout the day in small groups, 5-10 at a time in
addition to several large groups upwards of 75 birds.
A very good showing of Blue Jay and Northern Flicker.
A single Double-crested Cormorant heading ESE, and several Chimney Swift.
Monarch Butterfly continue to move through.
