All,
Not much time now, but I wanted to post that this AM I
had at least one NORTHERN BOBWHITE calling on the
meadow at Riverbend Park, Fairfax, Co. In addition,
along Jeffery Rd I heard then briefly saw a
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER. I have to check the arrival
dates for that bird, but it seems early based on my
recollection. Riverbend has been good to me for this
species in the Spring, as I had one there last year on
May 10. While driving away from the main gate, I heard
an exhuberant RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH calling from some
pines - amazing.
A little later at Great Falls NP, I was walking along
the Heritage Trl toward Riverbend, and at the
intersection of the Upland Trl, I heard a chip note I
was unfamiliar with. I got the bird in the bins to
discover that it was a KENTUCKY WARBLER not 15 feet
away - a nice surprise this AM. 13 warbler species.
More later on this fun morning.
