After missing the Snowy Owl this morning because we didn't go up to the top
level with Susan Heath, we returned this afternoon at 5pm. Several other
birders were already there and had spotted the owl on its usual lamp post, the
last one down from the Post Office closest to the runway. It cooperated
beautifully, giving us wonderful views of both the front and back of its head
(it was facing the runway). Then it flew down to the curb adjacent to the Post
Office parking lot, and we were treated to seeing it walk around on the ground.
As we left it returned to the lamp post, where we last saw it at 5:32pm. Not
to be outdone, the Short-eared Owl was also making an appearance beyond the
runways just in front of the tree line, flying back and forth.
