Hey again VAbirders,
In the fall I am used to seeing large flocks of Grackles in the evening
fill the sky. For the past 3 weeks or so I am seeing flocks of Grackles
(not as large as the fall flocks perhaps only 2 to 3 hundred) flying east.
It seems odd that it is happenings in early summer. Is anyone else seeing
similar Grackle movement whether you are in Virginia Beach or elsewhere in
the state?

Grackles have been "odd" all season in our garden. The "usual" scenario
here is that in Spring we are invaded by them. They blanket our garden and
the woods behind us with numbers in the 300+ range. They disappear briefly
while nesting and then come back big again when they bring their young to
hog our birdee offerings. By fall they start thinning out and are pretty
much gone through the winter until the following Spring.
This season they did the exact opposite. They never left in the Fall, were
a plague upon us through the winter, and then left in Spring. We have a
few coming with their younguns right now, perhaps 20. What will happen
next is anyone's guess!
