Hi VA-birders,
Sunday afternoon we went to Highland Co.We birded both sides
of Snowy Mt. and south to Monterey. We saw a number of unidentified hawks
and several Red-tails. At Snowy Mt. we watched a Raven harassing an imm.
Red shouldered Hawk for a while. Heading back toward Bluegrass, we
spotted some Turkey Vultures and almost missed our target bird ! One
Golden Eagle was in the bunch. We watched him soar out of sight ,then as
a bonus, he came back and gave us some more good looks. We checked the
feeders in Monterey, but didn't see anything extra special. We also
looked for the R. Crossbills at R. Knob on the way and coming back on
Rt.250,but no luck at either place.
Also- last summer someone mentioned that anise sage (salvia
guarantica) is a good hummingbird plant. We would llike to try it and
need a source-can anyone help? Reply direct to me at
tallwhiteoak@xxxxxxxx -thanks.
