On my way down Rte 17 in Gloucester County this morning, I encountered (it
was within about 10 ft of being a very literal encounter) an adult BALD
EAGLE that flew up from where it had been standing in the median strip of
the highway. This is the first BAEA I have seen away from water in this
county; it was near White Marsh and at least 2 miles away from substantial
bodies of water (I know this happens elsewhere).
Also, on the water around the Gloucester Point pier and boat ramps, there
were 5 COMMON LOONS and at least 12 HORNED GREBES. Three of the grebes were
in definite transitional plumage, and 1 was in striking full breeding plumage.

"It is among birders, all of them naturalists and adventurers, that the
child can find role models. There are a few eccentric loners in their
ranks, but also physicians, ministers, plumbers, business executives,
military officers, engineers, and in fact members of virtually every trade
and profession. They are united in a common focus. At least while in the
field, they are among the most congenial and enthusiastic people I have
ever known."

Creation: An Appeal to Save Life on Earth"
