Bill Parkin and I headed down to Andy Guest/Shenandoah River State Park
this morning hoping to find a few warblers and other FOS birds, which we
did. However, the highlight was a 5 second view of a flyover Glossy Ibis
(no pic, sorry), my first here in the Shenandoah Valley. Bill had a few at
Lake Frederick over 6 years ago.
We found a Yellow-throated Warbler, several Northern Parulas, a Louisiana
Waterthrush, and 2 Pine Warblers, along with several Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, a Blue-headed Vireo, several Warbling Vireos, and 2 Eastern
Phoebe nests. Except for one of the Pine Warblers (at Culler's Overlook)
and the BH Vireo (near the Visitors Center), all of the birds were down
near the picnic area along the river and the Bluebell Trail. The Ibis
crossed the river up high near the canoe launch and was headed east.
