At the Prince William Co. Landfill yesterday, a first winter Glaucous Gull
was seen by Bev Leeuwenburg, George Wheaton, and me. Ralph Wall arrived just
after the bird left, unfortunately. I had very good looks at the bird after
they
all departed. I realized that this was not the same 1st winter Glaucous that
I'd seen last week. Last week's bird was pale/white and today's bird was
slightly darker. I think there were at least 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (4
adults,
1 3rd yr, and 1 2nd yr).
For the first time in a long time, it was actually pleasant birding at the
landfill, if you can ever describe birding there as pleasant! No gloves
required, no diesel fumes, not too noisy, and the company was great!
