Kingfishers become extremely aggressive in the winter when they are
protecting feeding territories. I have seen this on the Potomac. I saw two
males try
and kill each other over the use of a lead in the ice about ten years ago. It
was next to Teddy Roosevelt Island. Most of the river was solid.
The bird at the mill probably sees its reflection in the window.
