Hello, Virginia Birders,
I just received a phone call at work from Tom Gwynn, who passed along
the following message: Don Schwab, regional biologist with the VDGIF,
spotted a single Fulvous Whistling Duck in Great Dismal Swamp National
Wildlife Refuge at about 3:45 PM this afternoon, 04/29/03. The duck was
in the marshy area at the corner of Railroad and West Ditches. This is
in an area not-accessible by automobile without a permit, but which is
open daily to foot and bicycle traffic. The entrance to Railroad Ditch
is on Desert Road, just a few yards south of the Refuge Headquarters and
Visitor Center, in Suffolk. It's about 1 1/4 mile to the intersection
with West.
