With all these reports of frigatebirds, I have to come out of the closet and
admit that I am relatively certain I saw a frigatebird just about 1/2 mile
west of the CBBT last Sunday, 25 June - from a small plane. The bird was
flying
WNW not far from the shoreline, about even with the far west end of Chick's
Beach, I think, maybe farther west. I know this sounds crazy, but we were
just getting ready to land at Norfolk airport, and I saw the bird in clear
profile for a few seconds, enough time to rule out gulls, pelicans, etc. but
not to
see real detail. I don't want this considered a 'record' per se, just wanted
to put another potential pin on the map - seems like a great year to be
looking for frigatebirds, and the coastline is the best place, surely.
