VA Birders,
Yesterday morning, Saturday, April 10, Bill Cross, Betty Kilgore, and I
went to Fort C.F. Smith Park in Arlington. Barbara Caldwell and John Fox
joined us there. We found a total of 45 species during the morning. The
highlights were 3 Pine Warblers and 1 Palm Warbler, 4 Northern Rough-winged
Swallows,
and at least 15 Chipping Sparrows. We also recorded 8 species of birds at the
park's Bird Stream, including an Eastern Phoebe, which came down for a drink
(but no warblers there yet). A special thank you to Barbara Caldwell, who
spotted both the Pine and Palm Warblers. The Palm was especially colorful in
full
breeding plumage.
