Howdy all,
The last two days have seen a lot of wind at the banding station, therefore,
we have been running the station with only a few nets that were protected and
out of the wind. Yesterday we only ran 9 nets for just a handful of hours. We
managed to catch 13 birds, dominated by MAGNOLIA WARBLERS.
Today was a bit different. The morning started off windy, then calmed, then
rained, then quit but still calm, then windy, and then finally, super windy. In
short, we banded 36 birds today including a grand-slam on the thrushes. We
caught BICKNELL'S, VEERY, SWAINSON'S, and GRAY-CHEEKED. Missed Hermit and Wood.
But I think this is the first time I have caught all four in one day. So I was
excited! We also caught a female CANADA WARBLER.
AMERICAN REDSTARTS had a bigger push last night but the GRAY CATBIRD numbers
have dropped way off. Only two the last two days.
We had a COMMON NIGHTHAWK fly over the house on the 19th.
