I was traveling down hwy28 south towards hwy29 tonight about 6:45 and at
the entrance to the last newer subdivision on the left just before hwy29 there
were at least 4 Common Nighthawks working the disturbed area just to the left
of the entrance. I turned on 29 south and as I approached the exit ramp for hwy
15 by Culpepper, I saw a flock of at least 1000 Grackles approaching from the
Northeast. I stopped at the stop sign at hwy15 and as no-one was around, and
my binoculars were handy, I took a look at them. They were actually all
Robins, not Grackles. A Huge flock of mostly juveniles with spotted breasts.
So I
guess I shouldn't actually say Red Breasted Grackels(in fun) and I should know
better than to make assumptions on speculation. But it was a cool sight seeing
that many noisy Robins at once. Dave White Zion Crossroads
