Subject: 6 Herald Petrels off Hatteras May 23; Space on May 25, 26, and 27 trips

Greetings Seabirders,
We've been out to sea for the last five days, and after seeing low
numbers of birds through Monday, conditions have changed and pelagic
birding is top notch. We've seen a good diversity of birds since the
wind shifted to the east; Black-capped Petrels, Cory's, Greater and
Sooty Shearwaters, Leach's and Band-rumped Storm- Petels and Pomarine
Jaegers have all been much more numerous over the last two days. On
Tuesday, May 22 we had crippling views of a Red-billed Tropicbird in 25
fathoms, and on May 23 we photograped SIX different Herald (Trindade)
Petrels on a pelagic trip from Hatteras.
We still have a number of spaces on a Hatteras trip this Friday, May 25
and the forecast is for light winds from the south, which should be
productive in combination with an easterly swell.
We also just had a cancellation for one space on May 26 and 27 from
Hatteras.
