Good Afternoon,
Thank you, Paula and Todd, for your help in getting the word out about this
bird and for the directions!
After finishing my bird survey at Manassas Battlefield this morning, I
decided to pop over to the Harrison Rd. pond and I'm glad I did. The male
Eurasian Wigeon practically "jumped out at me" with that beautiful rufous
head! The pale gray back and sides were also distinctive. He was amidst a
flock of ten Am. Wigeon so he really stood out, right off the bat. I've seen
several E.Wigeon at Pea Island NWR, but was surprised to see one here. I
watched him through the scope for 30 minutes and at one point, he came ashore
to forage alongside the Canada Geese, allowing for good views. I'm assuming
this might be the same bird that Sue Heath and others have been monitoring at
a private pond, for some time now? If so, I'm glad he relocated to an area
where he can be seen from a public road!
