Birders,
My husband and I birded the Eastern Shore from ESNWR up to Chincoteague and saw
many of the birds reported by others over the weekend. Unless I over-looked it
I don't remember anyone seeing the Red-necked Phalarope in the field by
Arlington Rd.on the 2nd (late afternoon after Jethro and his friends passed
us). Today (3rd) we traveled down Seaside Road and surprised 3 Wild Turkeys in
a field on the right side of the road across from Cobb Station. I don't
remember turkeys being reported that often on the Eastern Shore.
Our favorite sights were: the group of Hudsonian Godwits (life bird for us),
hundreds of Black-bellied Plovers in the fields and my MOST favorite was seeing
the massive amounts of Bobolinks (easily a thousand in several fields) that
appeared to be dancing on top of whatever was growing in those fields as they
were feeding. The sun had just come out and that intensified their pretty fall
colors. They were as graceful as butterflies. What a sight!
