Most of the 34 people at the Banshee Reeks walk turned out for the Dyke Marsh
(Alexandria) walk this morning - we had 25 or so (I lost count) - must be the
fine weather. Short of the May blossom of walkers, when the warblers are
peaking, this was the largest assemblage of participants I had seen on our
regular
Sunday morning walk. Participants had a somewhat distant view of 28
BONAPARTES GULLS on the Potamac. We also had a few TREE SWALLOWS and some
singing
WINTER WRENS. Two FOX SPARROWS were seen close to the beginning of Haul Rd.
One COOPERS HAWK let us examine it thru scopes for a while before taking
off and a flyover by two adult BALD EAGLES provided some very fine
entertainment. OSPREYs are nest building on "the" snag along the river that is
south of
the first boardwalk platform and building of the "National Waterfront" across
the river in MD has begun in earnest. One B EAGLE was observed on the nest just
south of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, (MD side) so they must be OK w. the new
insanity...complete list follows...
