VA BIRDers,
Ed Eder lead an intrepid group for the regular Sunday morning Field Trip at
Dyke Marsh (sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and free to all). Dodging
a few drops of water and many marathon runners, the group found several
interesting species. Common Loons were calling off the picnic area; nearby
was a Pied-billed Grebe. Two pairs of Bufflehead swam in Hunting Cr Bay and
a few Lesser Scaup were about. Many Osprey were around and adult and
immature Bald Eagle put in an appearance. A large raft of American Coots is
still present. Both Caspian and Forster's Tern were noted. The picnic area
hosted its first arriving Warbling Vireo, giving all great views from a
Sycamore Tree branch. Eastern Kingbirds were found in a few places. Along
the trail an Ovenbird called and Red-eyed Vireo, No. Parulas, Yellow Warblers
and Yellow-rumped Warblers were noted. Along the dogleg, several Orchard
Orioles were spotted.
