Thought it might be a good omen when I started off the mornig w. AMERICAN
REDSTART and YELLOW WARBLER singing in the same tree at the Dyke
Marsh/Bellehaven picnic area. (near the bathrooms). NORTHERN PARULA was next
heard near the
Marina bathrooms. Hooked up w/ Fred Bogar, Sheila and Nadine who were checking
out the active Osprey nest near the boat ramp. We picked up KINGBIRD, WARBLING
VIREO and another YELLOW WARBLER here as well. As we started down Haul Rd.,
we were treated to close up views of a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER singing close to
the path near some standing water. We next scooped up COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, at
least three males singing near the dogleg. As we got further out toward the
point, a dull PALM WARBLER was moving thru the low scrub. Many more YELLOW
WARBLERS singing here as well. Saving the best for last, on our way back in, a
lone
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was giving us the raspberry close to the bench at the
beginning of Haul Rd. Other birds of note were a GC FLYCATCHER in the picnic
area,
many ORCHARD ORIOLES singing, one BALTIMORE ORIOLE in the picnic area, and a
SCARLET TANAGER along Haul Rd. For good looks at a WARBLING VIREO, go out to
the end of Haul Rd., on the peninsula. It looks like we are going to have a
nesting pair there again this year. The trees are small and sparse, and the
WAVI's
are often only 10 - 12' off the ground and out in the open. Very easy to see
and hear in the small trees.
