Hi Everyone,
I decided to make a stop at Dyke Marsh this afternoon and was joined by Rich
Rieger shortly after my arrival. There were several decent birds observed at
the marsh, which include a WILD TURKEY along Haul Road, a GREEN HERON at the
marsh along Hunting Creek, a PIED-BILLED GREBE, two lingering LESSER SCAUP
(both females), SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, an EASTERN KINGBIRD, as well as an ORCHARD
ORIOLE and a vocal WOOD THRUSH toward the picnic area end. Warblers included
YELLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT.
We observed the Kingbird sparring with a Fish Crow for several minutes in an
aerial performance I have never seen before. The crow outweighed and outsized
the Kingbird but the Kingbird held its own. I'm not sure who was attacking
whom! The species list follows:
