I spent about 90 minutes today walking the Potomac River Bank in Algonkian
Park, Loudoun County, and turned up the greatest variety of ducks I've seen
there this season. These include:
Wood Duck -- 32
American Wigeon -- 8
American Black Duck -- 6
Mallard -- 4
Northern Pintail -- 8
Green-winged Teal -- 2
Ring-necked Duck -- 30
Lesser Scaup -- 3
Bufflehead -- 30
Hooded Merganser -- 5
Common Merganser -- 8
Ruddy Duck -- 2
Also on or above the river:
Canada Goose -- 25+
Ring-billed Gull -- 200+
Bald Eagle (adult) -- 1
