Following up on Allan Larner's post, I arrived at Rt. 608 in Augusta County
this morning in search of the Dickcissel.  Just as Allan reported, they seem
to be concentrated along Rt. 608 between Rts. 775 & 776.  They were easily
heard along this small stretch.

At any given time there was at least one on a wire actively singing and
several more out in the fields.  I observed not less than three males,
including two having a bit of territorial dispute that ended with one flying
off and the victor back to his overhead wire perch.

Route 608 is very narrow with NO save pull off unless you have a very high
clearance, off-roads vehicle.  Although not heavily traveled, at least while
I was there, there are a few curves and dips with blinds spots so be
cautious for oncoming/approaching vehicles.  The real problem is some of the
motorists are traveling too fast for this road.

I managed to get a few pics without leaving vehicle.  I kept hoping one
would at least perch along the fence at eye level but all I got were
overhead shots.
