I stopped by Craney Island this afternoon for about a 1/2 hour, so there was
only enough time to look at the southwest side of Craney. I did not spot
any unusual species. Met Ruth Beck and a student of hers -- was nice to
meet them. A Northern Harrier flew over the south impoundment, causing the
shorebirds to take flight. The pool at the west end of the south
impoundment contained a nice variety of ducks. I enjoyed seeing the small
number of Royal Terns that are still about.
Mallard
American Widgeon
Northern Shoveler
Gadwall
Ruddy Duck
scaup sp.
Green-winged Teal
Northern Pintail
American Coot were also present. The shorebirds present (far away, on the
other side of the pool) were:
Killdeer
Semipalmated Plover
Lesser Yellowlegs
Pectoral Sandpiper
Dunlin
peep sp.
Looking forward to the lunar eclipse tonight -- if I can stay awake that
late and there is little cloud cover!
