I was at Craney Island in Portsmouth from about 0900 to 1000 this morning.
The west end of both the north and south impoundments held some shorebirds
(Greater Yellowlegs, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, and
Semipalmated Plover). I also saw 3 Black-bellied Plovers on the bayside
beach on the west side, along with 2 Least Terns (flying) and 2 Willets. 3
Black-necked Stilts were at the west ditch in the middle impoundment. Signs
have been set-up on the beach area on the west side of Craney, marking that
the area is off-limits due to nesting birds (Black Skimmer, Piping Plover,
and Least Tern). I did not get over to the east side of Craney, but seeing
the Least Terns was very nice.
