This is a belated post for June 16 (Friday) visit to Craney Island,
Portsmouth.

Deciding a birding trip over sitting in the office on my birthday, I headed
to Craney Island as there is no weekend access.

There was lots of activity with trucks hauling in dredged materials so I did
not venture off the main road.  There was just too much traffic with
continuous flow of large dump trucks kicking up excessive dust!  In fact,
the dust was so bad I had to wipe down interior of van upon return trip.

I-64 eastbound traffic was backed up for most of the day at the Hampton
tunnel so I did not venture across to Norfolk and Virginia Beach.  Westbound
I-64 traffic came to a screeching halt at 3:08 p.m. and it was
bumper-to-bumper, stop and go gridlock between Newport News and
Williamsburg!

There wasn't must along the Craney riverfront but I was pleased just to have
the opportunity to get a bit of "near" coastal birding in.
