Inspired by Paul Baicich's article in Birding, as well as Alex Merritt's
recent post noting development on BRPO Rd., and the wonderful times I have
had there over the past few years, it occurs to me to ask the following
question: has anyone looked into the possibility of the Fairfax County (or
some other entity) purchasing the key parcels before they are turned into
tract mansions? The County just purchased a large parcel immediately
adjacent to the owl field (mostly wooded, I believe). It would seem like an
obvious move, if the resources can be found, to add the areas on BRPO Rd.
around the power lines to this new park.
Perhaps this has been pursued and dropped as not practicable, but I for one
would like to get some details, and see if we can't get this fantastic
habitat preserved. If anyone knows anything about any efforts to acquire
this land, please let me know. Between all of us, I imagine we have some
pretty good contacts. If necessary, Harry Glasgow and I could unleash Norma
Hoffman on the County . . . .
