This evening on returning from the hawk watch, Pat Alther and I observed a
swirling cloud of birds low over the trees along Monticello Road (Rt. 20) in
the Belmont area a few short blocks south of downtown Charlottesville, I
managed to pull over and we watched Common Nighthawks, easily in excess of
50, kiting around, some dropping down into the trees. Time was 6:21 p.m.
