Today, April 11th, Tom Armour, Fred Blystone and I watched as one Turkey
Vulture sped past his slower partner to become the 1000th bird of the season at
the College Creek Hawkwatch. It was a decent flight day, with great light
southerly winds and a total of 48 birds. Over the past 2 days, we have seen 9
species of hawks and vultures.
Last year, the 1000th bird came on April 19th and we set the season record
of 1445 birds, so we are on a great pace to break that mark. We saw our first
Broad-winged Hawk on April 7th.
