Tom Armour, Bill Williams and I were treated to another good day today, April
16th, at College Creek Hawkwatch on the James River, near Williamsburg. With
temperatures in the 40s and 50s and winds from the east, then the southwest,
there was the best variety of the season--10 species. The record is 11 species
in a day, set last April.
Totals:
Turkey Vulture 20
Osprey 12
Bald Eagle 9
Northern Harrier 1
Sharp-shinned 14
Cooper's 1
Red-shouldered 2
Broad-winged 3
Red-tailed 2
Am. Kestrel 9
Total 73
April is on pace to be the highest April total of the previous 7 years. The
season total is ahead of the average at 823.
