Today I finally managed my first birding outing of the migration season.  I
birded between 9:30 and 10:30 on Cockpit Point Rd (which is off of Possum
Point Rd) in Dumfries, Prince William County.  In contrast to birding along
Possum Point Rd, which can be a hair-raising experience due to the truck
traffic and meager shoulder, only three cars passed me on Cockpit Point Rd
during the entire hour.  Warblers and other spring arrivals were numerous and
vocal today.  Best birds of the morning were a coorperative BLUE-WINGED
WARBLER seen at close range near the swampy area on north side of the road
close to the turnaround and two male SUMMER TANAGERS near the intersection
with Possum Point Rd.  Other highlights included:

Bald Eagle
Osprey
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Cedar Waxwing (flock of approx 50 birds)
White-eyed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Northern Parula
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Yellow Throated Warbler (1 near intersection with Possum Pt Rd)
Prairie Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow-breasted Chat (1 near intersection with Possum Pt Rd)
Scarlet Tanager
Blue Grosbeak
Indigo Bunting
