Hola,
Eric Hynes and I did a little birding around Northern Virginia today,
hitting a couple spots in Fauquier County, and then a quick visit to Ashby Gap,
Snickers Gap, and the Shenandoah River at Route 7 in Clarke County.
Highlights were a Vesper Sparrow at Harrison Road in Fauquier. Blue-winged
Teal, a gorgeous drake Ruddy Duck among Ruddies of lesser feather, a Bald
Eagle, a Greater Yellowlegs, and a handful of Bufflehead at the pond on
Harrison
Road. At Ashby Gap we saw a few southbound Bald Eagles and a singing Field
Sparrow. At Snickers Gap we had a few north bound Broad-winged Hawks and a
White-eyed Vireo. Under the Route 7 Bridge over the Shenandoah River in
Clarke County we had a couple dozen Cliff Swallows working on nests and a
cormorant heading south.
Later, at my house in Jeffersonton, we noted a few northbound hawks
including a Broad-winged, Sharp-shinned, and some interaction between local
Red-tailed and Red-shouldered hawks. Had my first Chimney Swifts of the year
at my
house as well.
Cheers,
Todd
