I birded eastern Prince William County this morning with Skip Hyberg of MD to
show him how we do things in VA.  We started around 5 at Quantico Marine Base
to listen for night birds, and came across a chuck-wills-widow, the first I
have heard in Prince William in many, many years.  At the same stop were three
whip-poor-wills and a displaying woodcock.  We then went on to Cockpit Pt.
Road, Leesylvania State Park, and Metz Wetlands.  We had to quit around 10:30,
and we had over 100 species by then.  I later made a short visit to Occoquan
NWR and added a few more.  All in all a pretty lively morning.  There were some
good pockets of migrants along Cockpit Pt. Rd. and Leesylvania.  All told we
came up with 23 species of warbler, least flycatcher, lots of kingbirds and
waxwings, and good numbers of tanagers of both species.  At Occoquan I found
bank swallows, my first of the year, and the banding station there caught a
Lincoln's sparrow.
