I took a short (non-briding) walk with my kids this morning at Ft. Belvior*
and heard a Yellow Breasted Chat singing. The bird was found between the
main parking lot for the Accotink Refuge (not the archery range) and the
suspension bridge, in the marshy area off to the right as you walk toward the
bridge.
I've had Chats at Ft. Belvior before, but they've always been in the field
along the McCarty Farm Trail. I don't know if this location has hosted Chats
before, but like I said, I've never heard them there before.
Also heard were Accadian Flycatchers (3), Parulas (2), YB Cuckoo, and the
rest of the more usual suspects.
* Ft. Belvior is located in southern Fairfax County between Rt. 1 and the
Potomac. Anyone can enter the base, you just need to fill out a form and get
a visitor pass at the main gate.
