Just in case any of you have not yet committed to a bird count on Dec. 29 the
Central Loudoun CBC still needs some more people. We would like to put a
couple of teams in the field at the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve and some of
other areas to cover them more thoroughly if we can. So if you are int'd just
drop me a note or give me a call at jandkcoleman@xxxxxxxxx or 540-554-2542.
The following is a fuller description of the count and the tally rally that
will follow it:
The sixth Central Loudoun Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for Sunday,
December 29. The count circle includes some great areas such as Banshee Reeks,
the Dulles Wetlands, Beaverdam Reservoir, five miles of the C&O Canal and a lot
more! We break the circle into 12 sectors and last year had about 20 dif.
teams counting in those sectors. It stretches from Waterford in the north to
Aldie in the south and from Ashburn in the east to a little west of
Purcellville.
The count will be followed by a Tally Rally at ANS' Rust Sanctuary for anyone
who participates, whether it is for a couple of hours or the entire day.
You don't need to be an expert on birds to participate as everyone is welcome.
New birders will be teamed up with experienced birders. And don't forget there
is the $5.00 fee is waived by Nat'l Audubon for anyone 18 and under.
Thanks, Joe Coleman
