Howdy VAbirders,
Regarding wildlife that needs assistance, you can try contacting the
Wildlife Rescue League Hotline at 703-440-0800. This is their busiest time
of the year, however, so they may not be able to assist you. If not,
perhaps they can give you the name of another group or person than can help.
And if any of you have the time and interest to help WRL, please check out
their website at www.wildliferescueleague.org.

Yesterday evening I was enjoying the evening at Burke Lake Park near
Fairfax and noticed a collared, banded Canada has a fish hook with short
line attached stuck into his neck, just above the collar.
I entered at the Boat landing area past the main entrance on 123 coming
from Burke Lake Road. I was sitting on a bench at the point across from
the wide paved trail that goes across the dyke. The pair swam from the
trail area to the point and came up on the shore to eat an apple. I could
never get a view to read the band numbers.
I am hoping that someone can remove the hook or direct me to the correct
people to contact. If my directions make no sense, please contact me off
line at nehoward at cox.net
Thanks for whatever you can do.
