Hello, all--
Two excursions of mine this morning here in Charlottesville were curtailed
by thunderstorms, one serious enough to make the Weather Channel. I know
when to take a hint and call it quits, but it's quality, not quantity, that
counts, right?
Brief stint on Observatory Mountain at dawn yielded (not in order; sorry)
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Brown Thrasher
Wood Thrush
Red-eyed Vireo
Scarlet Tanager
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
Bay-breasted Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Redstart
Later, a rainy walk down Stribling Ave. was fairly quiet (a nice flock of
Cedar Waxwings, the ever-present Wood Thrushes, one Common Yellowthroat, a
persistent Indigo Bunting, several towhees, one Baltimore Oriole)...the big
surprise of the morning was a Canada Warbler foraging and singing low in the
small trees on the research park side of the street.
Soon thereafter, a loud thunderclap let me know that it might be time to
conclude my admiration of the Canada and call it a morning...again.
