Greetings.
There is surely more going on here than the three posts directly suggest.
While not a VA resident, I spend a good bit of time on the Eastern Shore.
Please recall the move 5-7 years ago to reform the CBBT governance and toll
structure, specifically to allow commuter tickets/tokens and reduced round
trip fees. Justifiably, there was great concern, especially in Northhampton
County over the secondary growth impacts of such action. An environmental
review was undertaken by Northhampton and, to a lesser extent, Accomac
Counties which found these concerns to be correct and substantial; the toll
structure was left largely unchanged, save for a modest roundtrip reduction.
It would seem that the Eastern Shore and Norfolk/VA Beach speculators,
developers and other real estate interests are at it again. And they
plainly sense that they have the political clout to force it through with a
change in administrations. One caveat, there would appear to several "newer"
present CBBT board members from the Eastern Shore, the Accomac County
Supervisor Thornton comes to mind, who see the Eastern Shore as
under-developed. Such members are likely lending their tacit support to the
takeover. If I am correct, the risk to the Shore is real, immediate,
significant and poses a grave threat to the private and public open space
and relatively intact, functioning ecosystems of the Shore. Peter Doherty
