Jerry Uhlman and I birded the above today, a beautiful and sunny but coolish
day. Among our findings;
1.Common Eiders (2 females) on #4, next to a
2. Harlequin Duck (male) in full breeding plumage, right next to and on the
rocks - as beautiful as one could ever hope to see.
3. Great Corms - at least 10 and in breeding plumage
4. Surf scoters - one raft of about 400 at #3, close in, and about another
100 scattered off the other islands
5. Black Scoter -exactly 1, and no W-W Scoters..
6. Not a single Long-tailed duck, and very few Gulls
7. One Tree Swallow bravely heading N. over #3
8. Brant - 2 at #2, and 8 at the landing in Oyster right by the shore-line.
9. Eurasian Collared-Dove - in a tree, calling, at the intersection of Rts.
600 and 645.
10. ! Snowy Egret at Oyster
Lots of Willets, Greater Ylegs, Snipe at ESNWR Headquarters Pond, several
large flocks of calling Fish Crows, one large flock (30-40) of Purple
Sanpipers on #4, and lots of the usual and expected birds.
