I don't think anyone has commented on this but the hawkwatch at Kiptopeke State
Park recorded 5 buteo species on November 23: a Swainson's Hawk (captured and
banded), 1 Rough-legged Hawk, 2 late Broad-winged Hawks, 2 Red-shouldered
Hawks, and 7 Red-tailed Hawks. In the > 1,000 days this hawkwatch has operated
over the years perhaps a 5 buteo day has never happened before, or anywhere
else in Virginia. Swainson's Hawks are seen here almost as often (perhaps more
so) as Rough-legged Hawks. - Harry Armistead, Philadelphia.
