Highlights: A snow goose, redheads, and more
common mergansers than I have ever seen in one
lake!
Burke Lake was mostly free of ice. I viewed from
the marina and from "bench point" between the
marina and the dam (from which most of the lake
can be seen). Here is what I saw in the whipping
wind on this very bright blue day.
470 common merganser
27 hooded merganser
no red-breasted merganser
1 snow goose
950 canada goose including one with a yellow neck
collar with black letters Z74E.
21 redheads: the most I have seen here
no ring-necked ducks: a surprise
7 lesser scaup and scaup sp.
2 bufflehead
4 ruddy duck
3 pied-billed grebe
4 black duck
25 mallard
3 bald eagle (2 adult, 1 imm.) One of the adults
has a fringe of brown still on its tail and a bit
of brown on its face.
7 great blue heron
40 ring-billed gulls
5 herring gulls
no coot
All the best
Fred
