Fellow Birders,
Once again apologizing for the error on my original offer to distribute
the Bullock's Oriole video, here's the real scooop:
First, the final Windows media file, even compressing size and colors is
many megabytes. In fact, it exceeds the 5MB limit on individual message
sizes imposed by my internet services provider. (As you can probably
tell, I'm just learning on all this digital editing stuff, and I
obviously have a lot to learn!)
Therefore, in order to make a passable video available to others on this
list that would like to see it, I have done the following:
First, I have further edited the video down to 1-1/2 minutes.
Second, and more importantly, I have converted the format to Real Media.
This means you must have a Real Media player in order to view the file.
(If your e-mail is with AOL, it will also play on the AOL Media Player.
You have to download the file first from your AOL mail, then the Media
player starts up automatically.) The Real Media video is a bit jerkier
and smaller that the Windows Media clip, but the field marks of the bird
are still quite clear, and it is still a beautiful sight to see.
Finally, even with the compression to Real Media format, the final file
is 1.5 Megabytes long (1500 Kilobytes vs. the orginally advertised 400
Kilobytes). On a dial-up 56KB or slower modem it will take a while to
download into your mail reader.
Based on the e-mails that have flooded in already, I know I excited a
lot of Birders out there with my original post. I hope most of you will
be able to view the revised format and will forgive the eroneous
information I originally distributed in my rush to share this bird with
the VA-BIRD members.
