Hola,
I took my father out to see the Buff-breasted Sandpipers at Remington in
Culpeper County. Same spot described yesterday, same amount of birds. If
they
aren't there, my suggestion would be to carefully scan the other portions of
the field from the road. Lots of Killdeer today, probably four or five
hundred. Only a couple pectorals.
There was a plover out there today that was too far to really look at, but
it had what seemed to be a golden hue to it, but the black on the underside
seemed to stop at the legs. Had the bird been closer, it would likely have
revealed whether or not it really had a golden hue to it, or whether or not the
black stopped at the legs. I suspect the bird was an American Golden-Plover,
but can't say for sure. Someone will nail this thing down this weekend I'm
sure.
Snickers Gap Hawkwatch officially kicks off this Sunday, so do joins us at
some point this season. Ian Topolsky and I went up there on Wednesday of this
week and had about 30 raptors or so. However, we did have a flock of 45
pluvialis plovers go over head, and the few that I got a good look at were
Black-bellieds.
Cheers,
Todd
