Gentlemen -
We spoke last week at the Volunteer Award Reception about the need for
forestalling future reductions in Park operations such as those which have been
imposed in the 2004 budget. We all forecasted that next year will probably be
no better than this, and that we should find ways to avert another round of
Hidden Oaks/Riverbend-like cuts.
I recall that we all seemed to agree that an investigation into innovative
ways for RMD facilities to become more self sufficient would be a move in the
right direction. In light of the Board of Supervisors' direction to the Park
Authority yesterday, such an investigation seems even more timely.
I would like to recommend that you form an ad hoc committee made up at
least of professionals from the Park Authority and citizen volunteers, and
charge the committee with undertaking that investigation and reporting to the
Park Authority and the Park Authority Board on ways to avoid similar kinds of
cuts in future budgets.
I would like to serve on such a committee.
Regards,
Harry Glasgow
