The Brooke Christmas count (in Stafford and King George counties) was
held on Dec. 14 and recorded 87 species. Best birds were a king rail, a
forster's tern, and 5 bonaparte's gulls along the Potomac near Aquia Creek,
and 700 laughing gulls at the landfill north of Rt. 3. High counts were
horned grebe (65), lesser scaup (2000), bufflehead (262), and bald eagle
(27 a., 21 im.),
