VA Birders,
Eleven birders turned out to participate in the Breaks Interstate Park CBC on
Saturday, Dec 17. Birding seemed to be a bit slower this year with 55 species
being logged. The highlights were American Kestrel (not common), Red-breasted
Nuthatch, Horned Lark, American Coot (not common in the area), Hermit Thrush,
Brown Thrasher (unusual in winter), Pine Siskin, Fox Sparrow, Purple Finch,
Ruffed Grouse (harder to find now), Pileated Woodpecker (high number of 14) and
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
