When I worked at the Pentagon some 30 years ago, Bobwhites were often heard
and seen in the empty tangles that became the Pentagon City Mall where the
Ritz Carlton and Nordstrom's is today.

The last bird I expected to add to my yard list in south Arlington was
Bobwhite, but when I took the trash out this morning (c.7:45am) I heard
one
singing from a backyard a few houses down.  It's certainly not going to
stick around to breed, but I understand it's not unusual for Bobwhites to
wander at this time of year.  Surprisingly, it wasn't an Arlington bird
though, as a few years ago I saw one fly across Rt. 110 towards Arlington
Cemetery.


I live on S. 18th St., between Grant and Fern (Pentagon/Crystal City
area).
I left for the day so I don't know if it's still around (not to mention
that
it rained all day), but others may want to keep an ear out for it.
